The Gamma Knife
To date, American Shared has updated five of our eighteen Gamma Knife partners to the Perfexion and another two are scheduled for upagrade. We can help you acquire a Gamma Knife or if you already have one, upgrade to the Perfexion.

The Gamma Knife is a state-of-the-art stereotactic radiosurgical device that delivers a single high dose of precisely focused radiation through the intact skull to a small and critically located intracranial volume. With pinpoint accuracy, 201 (192 for the Perfexion) beams of Colbalt-60 radiation  arrest or alter tissue growth. The Gamma Knife, which contains no blade and makes no incision is a sophisticated, dedicated instrument exclusively designed for the treatment of malignant and benign brain tumors, vascular malformations and trigeminal neuralgia (facial pain). Performed in a single treatment session - usually outpatient - and typically without general anesthesia, this revolutionary technology helps patients avoid incision, scarring and long hospital stays while reducing complications. Additionally, the Gamma Knife has an impressive scientific track record with thousands of peer reviewed articles – no other non-invasive treatment method in this field has greater clinical acceptance. Due to its unrivaled precision, the Gamma Knife has earned a reputation as the "gold standard" of stereotactic radiosurgical devices.

The newest Gamma Knife takes stereotactic radiosurgery to the next level. The Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion is designed for unlimited cranial reach. Emphasizing ease of use and comfort for both patients and staff, the sophisticated Perfexion system allows Gamma Knife centers to treat more cases while improving patient care, and provides a radiosurgical platform for further refinement and expansion of procedures in the brain, cervical spine and head and neck regions.
